Thinking of the Priesthood?

Welcome to the vocations website for the Archdiocese of Dubuque!

Since you are here, you must be thinking about the priesthood. Our goal is to help young, Catholic men by providing an online resource that will help you discover whether this decision could be right for you.  I wish you the best of luck in all of your life’s decisions. If you would like to contact a priest immediately, feel free to e-mail me, Father Dave Schatz - Director of Vocation Awareness for the Archdiocese of Dubuque,  and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!

The response to God’s invitation gives shape to our lives and is expressed in our vocation. The Office of Vocation Awareness is available to assist men contemplating a vocation to diocesan priesthood, guiding them through the many questions that arise as they consider the commitment to priestly service. A vital part of my ministry is to assess and evaluate potential candidates. I can also offer assistance and referrals to those interested in religious life and the permanent diaconate.

Please use this website www.dbqpriesthood.com to gain
information regarding diocesan priesthood, discernment, prayer and seminary life.

Throughout its history, forty-two religious orders and congregations have ministered in the Archdiocese.  To this day, of those forty-two, twenty-five still have a presence within the life of the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese.  Five communities of women religious have their motherhouses established in the Archdiocese, including the Dubuque Franciscans, the Sisters of Charity, the Sisters of Mercy, the Sisters of the Presentation, and the Sisters of the Visitation.  The Trappistine Nuns  and the Trappist Monks have their monasteries in our midst.  One missionary order, the Society of Divine Word, has its college seminary established in the Archdiocese.
