Hello. My name is Fr. David Schatz. I am the Director of Vocation Awareness for the
Archdiocese of Dubuque. I was born and raised on a farm 5 miles west of Cresco, Iowa. After graduating from Notre Dame High School in Cresco, I attended Iowa State University and then worked for a small corporation in Des Moines, Iowa. I continued to think about the priesthood. I worked several years and finally I was willing to hear God’s call. I entered the seminary in 1994 and completed the pre-theology and theology program at The Saint Paul Seminary in St. Paul, MN in 2000. I was ordained to the priesthood on June 3, 2000. Since ordination I have served in Dubuque and Cedar Rapids. I attended graduate schools in Pittsburgh, PA and Milwaukee, WI. As Director of Vocation Awareness, I have the full-time responsibility of helping people discern how God is calling them.
If I can assist you in any manner regarding your desire to learn more about the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Dubuque or if you feel a calling to discern priesthood, please contact me.
