Letter from Lay Formation Director

Dear Friends in Christ,

Do you want to deepen your understanding of your faith? Would you like your faith to permeate your experience of everyday life?

We invite you to consider Lay Formation. The Lay Formation process in the Archdiocese of Dubuque assists adult Catholics in deepening and enriching their faith and is designed to enhance their spiritual journey.

The United States Catholic Bishops remind us in the pastoral, Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us:

Adult faith formation is situated not at the periphery of the Church's educational mission but at its center. To teach as Jesus did means calling and equipping all Christians of every age and stage of life to fulfill their baptismal call to holiness in family, Church and society -their mission to evangelize and transform the world into a more caring and just society. Ongoing faith formation is essential to accomplish this mission; it does not end at confirmation or graduation but continues until one's death.

Please browse this web site and read the brochure carefully in the light of the Holy Spirit, and give prayerful consideration to the following components of the program as you consider the possibility of becoming a participant:

• Meet with the Director before entering the program
• Annual retreat weekend requirement in September
• Reading and writing requirements
• Eight sessions (October - May,
• Small and large group sharing
• Each participant will meet regularly with a Spiritual Director or Mentor

If you are interested, speak with your pastor or pastoral administrator and/or with parish community members who have already participated in the Lay Formation Program. You may also contact the Office of Lay Formation for assistance at 563-556-2580 or 1-800-876-3546.

Be assure that all who participate and assist in the Lay Formation Program will be praying for you
during this time of decision. Mail your registration form (link to registration form) to the Lay

Blessings of peace and all good,
