The Archdiocesan Faith Formation Commission has the purpose and the duties of governing matters pertaining to catechesis in the Archdiocese of Dubuque in accord with existing Archdiocesan policies and guidelines. These duties include oversight for catechetical planning and activities, except clergy education. Decisions of the Archdiocesan Faith Formation Commission and Archdiocesan Catholic School Board when approved by the Archbishop shall be binding upon the staff of the Office of Faith Formation and Education; all subordinate governing bodies dealing with catechesis and evangelization; and the pastors, principals, faith formation leaders, and staff of the schools and catechetical programs within the Archdiocesan system. The Commission oversees the planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the areas of catechesis in light of the six tasks of catechesis: promoting knowledge of faith, liturgical education, moral formation, education on how to pray, education for community life, and missionary initiation. The Archdiocesan Faith Formation Commission shall formulate policies relative to the primary areas of catechesis: adults, elderly, young adults, adolescents, Catholic schools*, children of catechetical age, early childhood, family, persons with disabilities, and the marginalized in light of the tasks of Catechesis. *The primary area of Catholic Schools is a power of the Archdiocesan Catholic School Board.
