Loras College was founded in 1839 by Bishop Mathias Loras and is the oldest college in Iowa. It is one of only 12 diocesan colleges in the United States. Loras offers over 40 majors and 13 pre-professional programs. It is located on the bluffs of the Mississippi River and overlooks the states of Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa.

Founded by the Sisters of Mercy, and now sponsored by the Conference for Mercy Higher Education, Mount Mercy is a coeducational college offering over 40 baccalaureate liberal arts and pre-professional programs and five accelerated degree programs for working adults.
